"Many people in the west think Tibet is like the Jhang Thang - A Desolate, cold, windswept desert on the roof of the world - but an unusually diverse and strikingly beautiful landscapes of snowcapped summits, lush rhododendron and conifer forests, and fertile agricultural valley also lies beyond the Himalayas" wrote Gary McCue in his trekking guide book Trekking in Tibet giving the true picture of Tibet.
As Gary MacCue puts the true picture of Tibet, we believe we do not need to go further to introduce Tibet as a prime adventure and mysterious Trekking destination. We just wish to added that to get the true picture of Tibet, its culture and people you must visit unspoiled region and that is only possible on trek. In this section we have tried to put some short information regarding the various trekking options available in Tibet.
01)
Ganden Samye Trekking
This trek is one
of the most beautiful trek in Tibet which makes it the busiest trekking route.
The Trek starts from the Ganden Monastery area, some 60 kms from Lhasa.
We arrive Gonggar aieport either from Kathmandu or Chengdu. Or even we have option of going overland to Lhasa from Kathmandu. After reaching Lhasa we spend at least 2-3 days in Lhasa for acclimatization doing local sightseeing before heading to Ganden Area where we spend another 2 days for acclimatization purpose with short day hikes.
Even though the route is very popular the walking is very tough. We start our trek from 4250m at Ganden and head toward the Samye Monastery. The average trekking period is 5 days walking 5-6 hours each day. The highest pass we cross is Shogu La at 5240m. Our overnights halts in between are, Hegu, Jookar, Rockey Junction, Nenggong, Chimpu, Samye and to Tsedang or Gonggar for flight back to Kathmandu or to China.

The Main attraction of this trek is Namtso Lake itself and Yangbachen Valley
en-route. Namtso is a very high lake at an altitude of 4590m from Sea level
and 1140 m above Lhasa. The route to Namtso is rough and gets closed during
the summer months of July and August due to the rain and snowfall. It
is the second largest salt lake in Tibet which is situated 160 kms from Lhasa
and the route of its trekking involves high passes like Lagen La (5200m)Kong
La(5250m)etc.
We can either fly to Lhasa or drive through friendship highway to Lhasa from Kathmandu before starting our trek to Namtso. The starting and ending point of the trek is Damxung a small town 160kms north of Lhasa. But before reaching there we stop 01 night at Tshurpu Monastery area or at Yangbachen for acclimatization.

Tibetans call it Chomolangma, Nepali Sagarmatha and the rest of the world, Mt. Everest. Whatever the name we give, it is the highest point in the earth and to appreciate it the best place is nowhere but Tibet. Mt. Everest was opened to foreigner years before Tibet and even Nepal was. And due to same reason the early expeditions were all planned from this side of the Everest.
The
area is not only of snowcapped mountain but also a great side for local life
style of Tibet and the cultural heritage of Himalayan people and to explore
these diversities you must do as local people do and that is to walk on foot.
Below we have presented two routes for trek to Everest Base camp one from Pang
-La to Rongbuk and another from Kharta to Khangsung valley.
TOUR: Tt. 03 (Tingri-Base camp)
The
easiest access is to drive from Kathmandu to Tingri or Shegar and trek from
there to Rongbuk Monastery and further to Everest Base camp. The whole trekking
period can be from 3-4 days to even two weeks and more if you wish to go
further from Everest Base camp. But in this tour we will trek from Shegar
to Everest Base camp and from Rongbuk we will drive back.
Or if you are short of times, we can drive up to Everest Base camp in a day from Shegar but from Rongbuk Monastery to Base camp is always subject to road condition. But this (Rongbuk- Base camp) is only a distance of 12kms and a walking is always a better idea. For driving to Base camp tour please see our tour NO TEN6 at tour section.
If you wish to stay for 4-5 days in camp we will take our tents, crew and food from Kathmandu but if you only wish to stay one night at Rongbuk driving there we will stay in local lodges or monastery. Even tea house trek is possible in this route but we do not recommend it.

TOUR:
Tt 04 (East Everest base camp)
The
East Everest basecamp or the Khansung valley is regarded as one of the most
remote trekking destination in Tibet. The trekking starts from relatively lower
elevation of 3750m. We will drive from Kathmandu or Lhasa to Kharta Villge (3750m)
situated at the bank of Arun River or Phung Chu; Or if you have more time to
spare we can walk from Shegar to Khaarta within 3-4 days, thus starting our
trk from Shegar check point.
The trekking period from Kharta to Kharta is 9-11 days and from Shegar to Shegar is 12-15 days. Although the trekking starting point is only 3750 m the trek in 3-4 days crosses over 5300m pass like Langma La or we have option of crossing Shagu La pass at 4750 at the other route to reach Khansung valey, but 2 more days are required for this route (Shagu La). So the whole trip will be 21 + days and it involves strenious walk of 12-15 days in a remote area where no means of modern amenties are available. You must be well suppported by staffs, equipment and foods either from Lhasa or from Kathmandu. We supply all these from Kathymandu to make sure that you enjoy the trekking and the natural beauty.
