By Road
Kathmandu
is linked with China through Arniko Highway which connects Nepal with
Tibet. If you are arriving Nepal by land from India you can enter Nepal
from Sunauli, Kakarvitta, Nepalgunj, Birganj.

VISA AND THE PROCEDURE
All
foreigners, (EXCEPT Indian, Chinese and SAARC countries nationals) are required
to have a valid visa to enter Nepal. Visa can be obtained from Royal Nepalese
diplomatic missions (Embassies and consulates) abroad or can be obtained upon
arrival at the airport in Kathmandu. If you are arriving by land it can be
obtained from any immigration offices at the border points. Visa fee is as
following :
| a) 60 days Single Entry visa | US$ 30 per person |
| b) 60 days double entry visa | US$ 55 per person |
| c) 60 days triple entry visa | US$ 70 per person |
| d) 60 days multiple entry visa | US$ 70 per person |
| e) Business visa for 5 years | Available on the recommendation of Ministry of Industry and Commerce for businessmen with unlimited entry. |
Recent Updates:
01) For a stay of up to 3 days, a visa is gratis.
02) If a person stays in Nepal for 15 days and returns to Nepal within a year from that date, visa is gratis for the second visit.
Once you are in Nepal and you wish to stay more than 60 days you can extend the visa by paying extra US$ 50 (in the Nepalese Currency) for 30 days from the immigration office at Tourist Service Centre, Bhrikuti Mandap, Exhibition Road, which is opened 10 AM to 5 PM in from Sundays to Thursdays and 10 AM to 3 PM on Fridays in Summer.

Permits
You
require to pay entrance permits to all the National Parks, Lakes etc. During
sightseeing you will have to pay entrance fees (per person) to Swayambhu
Nath (US$ 1), Bouddhanath (US $1), Patan US$ 3, Bhaktapur US$ 10, Changu
Narayan Temple US$ 1 etc. There are entry fees to museums as well.
Permits to National Parks can be obtained from the entry points (EXCEPT ANNAPURNA) or if you are traveling to Royal Chitwan National Park, Bardia National Parks and Koshi Tappu the fee is included in your package and your organizer pays for the same.
If you are going to trek you will have to pay the national park/reserve fee at the entrance point. Trekking permits to Everest Region, Annapurna Region and Langtang region is not required however national park entrance fee is applicable which is US$ 30 for Annapurna and US$ 10 for Langtang and Everest National Park. National Park entrance fees must be paid in Kathmandu or in Pokhara for Annapurna Area (this is new development) which is under the management of King Mahendra Nature Trust.
Permits to other trekking areas, (except restricted areas-Please see Trekking In Nepal chapter) can be obtained from Kathmandu immigration office which is located at Tourist Service Centre, Bhrikuti Mandap, Exhibition Road. Office hours - 09:00 to1500 hours from Monday to Fridays.

Airport Tax
Passengers
departing from Airport are required to pay airport tax while leaving out
of Nepal. Airport tax is categorized for two destinations:
I)-International
Departure (per person)
01)
For flight to India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Maldives
as first stop RS 770
02)
Other than above as first stop NRS 1100 per person
II) Domestic sectors (within Nepal): NRS 165 at each departure at each airport

Currency is called RUPAIYAN (RS in short) and 100 Paisa is = 1 RUPAIYAN.

Exchange rate with US$ is 1 US$ = 75.25 (but depends upon the banks and
hotels).
